Opening for Mark Wilkinson and Bridget A'Beckett

View slideshow

I opened for a super talented local singer/songwriter Mark Wilkinson last night (playing with songstress Bridget A'Beckett) at the Vanguard, Newtown. Mark was launching his impressive EP and I was honoured to play the velvet clad venue.

I played a short 30 minute set, consisting of two new songs not on the album - Last Night and Girl I Once Loved Married a Farmer. The highlight was a sing along and of course having a good mate, Kent Eastwood jump up to play the piano accordion on the last track.

Definately check out Mark's, Kents and Bridgette's! music.

Old Glebe Court House

By Dave Anderson on Nov 17, 2008

Vanessa, Adrian and I were lucky enough to play the historic Glebe Court House last Friday as part of the Glebe Music Festival. Whilst, it was a fairly minimal set up the ambiance was unreal with a storm hitting outside just as we started playing.

We couldn't really have asked for more. Thanks again to Fi for taking these photos.

Best live gig, who's Ladyhawke?

By Dave Anderson on Oct 31, 2008

Seems my cousin Stu MacGill, has put his relative 'lack of thought' to good use plugging my music in the paper, well actually my live gig.

Do you think he's biased? Who's Ladyhawke anyway ; )

Here's the extract.

LAST MOVIE - The Kite Runner; successful adaptation of a great book. I laughed, I cried.

LAST DVD - New Order live in glasgow; particularly disc two; although it isn't new order live in glasgow. I promise that is not the reason. I have family in glasgow!

LAST ALBUM - Ladyhawke. Ladyhawke. good. good.

LAST BAND - Dave Anderson at the Vanguard in Newtown. Singer songwriter with a great voice and surprising amount of thoughtful lyrics. Surprising because as my cousin he obviously did a little better than me in the thoughtful department. www.daveandersononline.com

LAST BOOK - Rant by Chuck Palahniuk. Chuck is a very strange man. He wrote fight club which after reading his other books is a very straightforward simplistic story. I love reading his books because they are a good excuse for the confused look on my face.

Oz Music Awards

By Dave Anderson on Oct 29, 2008

I normally hate asking people to vote but I could really use a break and I'm not even in the top 100 right now of this awards comp!

Please take two seconds, grab your mobile and send an SMS with my name for 55c to help me reach the top of the People's Choice Catagory of the Oz Music Awards.

Here's the details:
1) SMS: dave4 rocks my socks ('dave 4' is my code - say what you like after but make it less than 10 words)
2) Send the SMS to 1970 8000 (55c and 2 seconds of your time).
3) Email this post to friends, or share on Facebook. All votes will help!

Hey Dave,

You new songs are great! The Farmer song is one of my favourites, and Hopelessly in Love has been stuck in my head for days. When are you going to record them?

FM radio debut!

By Dave Anderson on Jul 9, 2008

I made my FM radio debut with Rupert on Monday night. Eastside Radio 89.7 is mostly a jazz station but their arts show opened their arms to our alt country vibe. Check it out.

We are playing our last band show for a while this Saturday night July 12. Come on down!

Dave sings with Juan (Epicure)

By Dave Anderson on Jun 24, 2008

It was a pleasure having Juan from Epicure supporting my album launch. I was taken back when he asked me up to sing Self Destruct. I knew if I forgot the words...I might do just that.

Hope you like...

Check out Epicure's music here - and buy Goodbye Girl and Main St. They are great!

Vanguard review

By Dave Anderson on

Dave Anderson at the VanguardSo the tour ended for us on Saturday night in style down in Melbourne. I even got the opportunity to jump up and sing with one of my favourite singers Juan from Epicure. Our unplanned song "Self Destruct in Five" was really well recieved and I managed to only get a few words wrong. Absolutely loved it. The best news is I have that memory on video and will share it with you as soon as I can.

Thanks everyone for making it such an enjoyable tour. The band and I will never forget it. Fi thanks for your management and patience, Simon and mates for organising so much gear, and of course everyone who came out and made it such a great night.

I have stacks of great photo's, as well as some excellent video onstage and behind the scenes video footage which I'm hoping to get through. I do hope you like my CD and please feel free to encourage your mates to grab a copy online or through itunes.

We might be doing one more show in the next couple of weeks as a sort of farewell as a few members of the band might be heading interstate/overseas.

Here is the first review to roll in.

Please feel free to leave a comment and let me know what you thought of the gig below. I love to hear your feedback. It can get lonely in cyberspace.
