Reach the top of Triple J Unearthed
By Dave Anderson on Sep 3, 2008Wouldn't be awesome to reach the summit. To spend days upon days mastering your art, putting your heart on the line, and having people stand and cheer. Maybe I'm just growing a little too jaded or maybe I think in this digital age there is a work around for everything. What am I talking about? Triple J Unearthed of course!
I put my music up on the site quiet late in the piece was keen to see how it would grow. Build it and they would come I thought. Well for anyone who has read the book 'The Tipping Point' you'll know that you need a ground swell for things to tip exponentially. Oh who am I kidding...any high school graduate could tell you that.
Anyway I put my stuff up there and I'd painfully log in to see zero listens. How could people be so harsh I thought. Perhaps they haven't found me? Ok then. What if I streamed all day everyday. Surely I'd reach the summit right? Nope! Not event close. Ok what if I streamed all day every day, on 5 computers running two browsers all day, everyday for a week. What would happen then?
Well aside from my internet eventually being shapped...I reached number 30 in the charts. This suggest to me that the system isn't working off unique id's. It suggest to me that their are bands out there smarter than me working the system. Or there really are heaps of people listening to these unknown bedroom artists all day every day all over Australia.
Goes to show. You might think your a smart ass, but there is always a bigger smart ass out there!

Great Escape Cancelled
By Dave Anderson on Aug 11, 2008The Great Escape has been cancelled due to low ticket sales. Those that have purchased tickets, can get a refund.
I attended the Great Escape a few years back and had a brilliant time seeing local as well as international acts in a really nice setting.
Although I did find camping in homebush to be a bit weird ; )

Embed RSS script for FTP blogs/websites
By Dave Anderson on Aug 7, 2008I found a great script that I thought might help those that are looking to embed RSS feeds on their website. I understand that Blogger and Wordpress have built in plugins with some great functionality, however for those that are using their own custom template, finding this functionality can be quite an ordeal.
I'm still treating each of my pages on my site as separate blogs largely because I wanted an RSS feed off each page. Now that I know I can get RSS feeds off labels, thanks to this wonderful post - Consuming Experience, RSS Feed FAQ I can essentially pull my whole site back into one blog.
So using the site above you should be able to work out your RSS feed without too much trouble. You can get any number of different feeds including comments. Once you have this information you are probably wanting to embed it in your right hand side navigation.
So I found this website which makes it simple:
http://commons.ucalgary.ca/feed2js/build.php
Best thing about the site is that it's free! If you have a look at my right hand navigation you see an example. If you are familiar with CSS styles you can style them till your hearts content.
Hope this helps!

New You Am I Song!
By Dave Anderson on Aug 3, 2008
You Am I are set to release their new album in September once Tim get's back from touring the UK. After a stellar acoustic performance at the Annandale (review here), fans of You Am I might see a more alt country influenced album if the pre released title track Dilettantes is anything to go by.
To listen to the new song go to'Who the Bloody Hell Are You - Australian Music Blog.
