What are you listening to?

A fellow muso and philosopher Cam McKellar posted about his current musical tastes and I figured I would steal, I mean, take his initiative and give you my two cents in worth in the hope you may pick up a few new sounds, and in return via comments or replies I too will pick up new sound suggestions. Here’s whats on my current list:

1) Sarah Blasko – As Day Follows Night

Really cruisy album with simple production.  I don’t think there is much in the way of distortion on it with some melancholy yet uplifting lyrics. It makes me want to drink a scotch, smoke a cigar, and sit by the fire.  Sultry.

2) Wilco – Wilco (the album)

You get the feeling Wilco don’t take themselves that seriously naming the album Wilco the album, with the first chorus, “Wilco, Wilco”.  They’ve pretty much mastered the alt-country genre with this an ‘almost as good’ follow up to Blue Sky Blue.  If you don’t have Blue Sky Blue get that.  If you do…you’ll get this.

3) David Ford – Pages Torn from the Eltetrical Sketchbook

I cannot get enough David Ford. The one man looping band genius has a couple of absolute scorching albums “I sincerely Apologise for Everything I’ve Done” and “Songs for the Road”. These, a collection of EP’s feature 9 unreleased tracks. I guess it’s only for the true fans but it has a couple of absolute jems on it and is worthy of the itunes David Ford shuffle!

4) Nizlopi – Half These Songs Are About You

“I’m Luke I’m 5 and my Dad’s Bruce Lee. Drives me around is JCB, I’m Luke I’m 5 and my Dad’s Bruce Lee!”  I sang this song for 24 hours and drove everyone up the wall.  They are kind of funky, English, acoustic stuff.

5) Gomez – A New Tide

All their albums are great.  Don’t believe what the critics say. My dog’s named after this band. Enough said.
