What goes up must come down. But jeez I’m sinking faster than the Titanic. We are talking a fall faster than the West Coast Eagles post Judd and Cousins.

In fact since John Howard, it’s unlikely that you have seen anyone fall out of favour faster than I have.

Friday I was sitting on top of the perch. I got home from work a little down in the dumps with music, and then I logged onto the Triple M ‘Unsigned Find’ Website and was elated to see my song “Write You Away” sitting on top of the tree. NUMBER 1. You bewty!!!

“Don’t get ahead yourself Dave, there is a long way to go. $10k would really help fund the next album…but be patient” was one voice, the other was “Stuff that, $10k on booze how rock’n'roll”. Right how do I win this thing? Or at least rig it to keep me in it. It’s only a week to go and I need to be in the top 10.

Mate I tell you what I was popular Friday night. Don’t want to brag too much but total strangers were wanting to be my friend and stuff. I was riding the wave. Killer tube you know, wind in my hair, suspension of time, then…I get dumped face first into the sand.

I doubt you will find anyone who had serious fame like I did, lose it so quickly. Not Ian Baker Finch. Not Jelena Dokic. Dave Anderson.

Got to stop the rot I was thinking. Checked the song plays. Nothing wrong with them, they are high in comparison to the other chumps, I mean artists. This is obviously not the judging criteria. This is a bloody MYSTERY that’s what it is. I’m talking CSI, Cold Case, Bones and X-Files.

Falling faster and harder than anyone before. Except perhaps my year 6 teacher, after she tripped on my WWF Survivor Series VHS tape. She hit hard.

First it was a few spots, then a few more, then I’m out of the top 50. Don’t stop there I thought. If your going to fall make it spectacular. Make it newsworthy!

Not sure if I’ve peaked at my lowest yet but I’m comfortably resting in 140th. It’s like that car game Daytona…when you get out to an early lead the computer plays ‘catch up’ on you. Yeah, well you’ve lapped me now so anytime you want to take my handbrake off I’d be appreciative.

Too many thoughts come to mind. Don’t count your chickens before they’ve hatched. Don’t get ahead of yourself. Take it one week at a time. Competition in music sucks…just enjoy it damn it.

Then I thought stuff it. Just don’t log on anymore and I won’t have to worry about it. Gosh the virtual world is so stressful.
